Adelphia Phoenix | Chakota Wasps | Oakland Ravens | Rochester Trojans
The PFL Central houses two of the oldest and storied teams in the league. The Wasps and the Ravens are old-school rivals. The Trojans joined the league in 1972 (along with the Stars) and have been a tough opponent ever since. The Phoenix only joined the league in 2008, but have already been to three Crystal Bowls, winning two. Adelphia played in the East until the 2020 realignment.
The newest franchise in the league, the Adelphia Phoenix have been ultra-successful in a short space of time, winning two out of three Crystal Bowl appearances in the last five years. American head coach Chip Bailey has been there since 2010.
The Wasps are five-time Crystal Bowl Champions, appearing in nine bowl games overall.
Legendary head coach Walt ‘Wally’ Dawson was there for over twenty seasons, with veteran QB Billy Humphrey at the helm for 20 seasons . This team has had more continuity at the helm than anyone else- and it shows, having had only one season below .500 in this time. Their fast defence is known as ‘the swarm’. Moved to Chakota from Carlton in the 60s, where they now play in the Wasps’ Nest domed stadium.
The Ravens have always seemed to stay true to their original gameplan from the early days- run, run and run some more. They always have a tough defence and prefer short passes. The Ravens have an exciting young QB- Tayvon Coles leading the team. Oakland are the only team to have their logo on only one side of the helmet- similar to the NFLs Pittsburgh Steelers. Their Ultras fanbase is known as the ‘Raven Loons’
Rochester Football has always been well supported, so it is a little hard to understand why it took until 1972 for them to add a PFL team there. The Trojans have appeared in four Crystal Bowls, wining two. Won the AC Central multiple times and will be vying with Oakland and Chakota for top honours in the PFL Central.
