Boxing Day Bowl Games bring the Rematch for Championship

NUSA- UFB | University Football

The Boxing Day bowls included the two semi-finals for the National Championship- the  Champions Bowl. The Granada Bulldogs and Ohara Scarlets will stage a rematch from last years final, where the Scarlets won 31-17 to bag back-to-back titles. Yes UFB fans, a threepeat is on!

 Cherry Bowl:
#3 OHARA  SCARLETS  41-24  #2 MADISON BULLDOGS

Double-defending champions, the Scarlets, led by sophmore QB Alex Thomas, scored five touchdowns in an eventual romp over the number two ranked- previously unbeaten Madison Bulldogs.  Thomas passed for 362 yards and 4 TDs, with senior RB Stan Preston tallying 101 yards on the ground and one score. Receivers Bobby Stills (3) and Dantonio Bryant caught passes for majors.

Madison’s consolations came from a Jared Sanders pass to Victor Davis, a Lionel rose 93 yard KO return and a 59 yard Earl Claiborne run.  Having won 14 games to begin the season, it ended on a sour for Madison. They will be right up there again next season though.

Apple Bowl:
#1 GRANADA BULLDOGS  34-17  #5 AMORGAN IRISH

The Irish had no answer to the number one ranked Bulldogs defence, who shut down the run game (Donovan Rolle was 10 for 26 yrds) and forced Deon Tucker to pass.

Aaron Murphy and the Bulldogs totalled over 450 yards on offence, with Murphy gaining 332 yards through the air. 197 came from 8 catches from Andre Peters, including a 74 yarder in the first quarter. RB Kylian Floyd ran for 78 yards, 1 score and caught one pass against the #3 ranked ground defence.

The Bulldogs are seeking redemption from last years finale, whilst the Irish must be happy to have been in the final four, courtesy of that win in Stamford.
