You can watch in live on NTV tonight! Join us for the Sunday Night Game.
Trailing 23-28 with just 11 seconds remaining, Miners QB Brandon Mullen found Anchor Avery Lewis wide-open following the ‘greatest play-fake, ever!’ according to their coach .Jake McDonald. It was a heartbreaking defeat for the Sharks, and one that leaves them vulnerable for the play-offs now. Sharks QB Trent Harris had dissected the Miners defence in the first half, torching them for 163 yards and three touchdowns. The Sharks’ kicker, Bruce McGwire missed two second-half field goal attempts that would likely have been enough to put the game out of the Miners’ reach in the fourth quarter. The PFL teams are now just three games away from the season’s end. Whilst not too much has changed in the standings the past few weeks, there are teams that are running hot and very much not!
Tonight’s Monday Night Game between The San Andreas Miners and St. George Sharks could have major play-off implications, with the Bulldogs drawing level on ten wins.
The Sharks need to avoid defeat to make sure that they are not on the outside looking in, when it comes to play-off time for the second successive year.
Champions Bowl Game 2017 | Honey Bowl Stadium | 7 Jan 2017
The O’Connell Shamrocks cruised to victory in the Champions Bowl, beating the University of Stamford Rams 41-13 on Saturday night. The Rams defence was exposed, with Junior QB Kendall Clark throwing for 287 yards, four touchdowns and Jamarcus Jones gained 172 yards on the ground (and one TD).
The Star of the show was the O’Connell defence, who really took their number 5 ranking to heart- as a huge insult. Led by their beastly frontman, End Vin Marshall. Marshall’s commanding display earned him Player of the Game Honours- with three QB Marks and a forced fumble- he disrupted the Rams attack all day. The Rams only got their touchdown once Marshall was being rested as the reserve defenders were mainly in there. The O’Connell defence forced six turnovers as outgoing senior QB Dre Nalen had a night to forget.
Vin Marshall stole the show and will be the odds-on-favourite for the number one pick in the draft, based on the play-off showings.
The Eregon Eagles have fired Head Coach Ed Walsh. The Eagles have a 2-13 record, with little to play for, other than respect. So, last nights 34-0 drubbing at the hands of divisional rival Caligara Bulldogs on Friday Night Football was too much to take.
Reports suggest the Walsh knew that the writing was on the wall for him, he leaves the team in a worse shape than he started them with. Walsh, who’s real expertise was in University Football was in his first Head Coaching position in the Pros. He may either think about returning to the University game and/or dusting off his defensive play book and trying out as a co-ordinator again.
RAMS vs ‘ROCKS | NUSA National Championship
Champions Bowl | Sat. January 7th 2017 | USN | 8pm ECT
The Number three ranked University of Stamford Rams go up against the (now favourites) Number five(!) ranked O’Connell Shamrocks. How those seedings appeared to deceive, when it came to playing the games in the NUSA Tournament.
Two seniors may have a big say in the contest, with the Rams’ QB Dre Nalen and enigmatic Shamrocks’ DE Vin Marshall both playing their last games at University. Both are expected to be early picks in the PFL Draft 2017.
The Tallassea Oilers have relieved Head Coach Stan Hickey of his duties. Attack Co-ordinator Eric Bassey will assume interim responsibilities for the last four games. With a 3-11 record, the Oilers have really disappointed this season.
It was rumoured that the players had lost faith in Coach Hickey, which is why the management decided it was best to make the change now, giving the players four games to prove themselves.
The hunt for a new head coach begins almost immediately with several UFB coaches in contention for the post. More on this as the story unfolds.
The New Jorg 96ers Quarterback Randy Dunn‘s season is over. The veteran American passer has suffered a return of his elbow bursitis that plagued him two years ago.
Dunn has been place onto Inured Reserve (IR) for the remainder of the season. Cliff Walsh will start in his place on Sunday. Dunn is out of contract at the end of March, so questions of durability may affect the 34 year old’s future in the PFL.
