Trailing 23-28 with just 11 seconds remaining, Miners QB Brandon Mullen found Anchor Avery Lewis wide-open following the ‘greatest play-fake, ever!’ according to their coach .Jake McDonald. It was a heartbreaking defeat for the Sharks, and one that leaves them vulnerable for the play-offs now. Sharks QB Trent Harris had dissected the Miners defence in the first half, torching them for 163 yards and three touchdowns. The Sharks’ kicker, Bruce McGwire missed two second-half field goal attempts that would likely have been enough to put the game out of the Miners’ reach in the fourth quarter.
Miners QB Brandon Mullen threw for 333 yards and three scores. He had two interceptions in the first half, including one from a last second Hail-Mary attempt. On the ground Chauncey Smith gained 66 yards from 13 attempts. Wideout Don Simms had 8 catches for 99 yards and two scores.
Defensively, the Miners standouts were: Charles Bentley (11 tackles), Matt Walker (8 tackles and 1 mark). For the Sharks: Darren Warner had five tackles and an INT, Alvin Freeborg had nine tackles.
The loss leaves the Sharks trailing in the play-off race, with the Caligara Bulldogs leapfrogging them.
