Ralph Adams (Guard) Harteford Hawks 1998-2010 | PFL Legend Class of 2016
Ralph wasn’t just a reliable figure at Guard for 13 seasons- he was the leader of the line and the person that Defenders tried to avoid in blocking assignments. Following an impressive UniBall career at the University of Michago, Adams was picked in the first round in the 1998 draft (yes, the same one as Billy Humphrey!)
Starting from week one, Adams became a true leader of the forwards- mentoring Locks and the Centre, Mickleson. Adams was the Forwards captain for nine seasons. In several accounts, many defenders said their greatest (or one of their greatest) challenge was to avoid the Guard, who excelled at pulls and anticipating stunt moves. With balance and grace, Ralph Adams was a textbook pass protector and a agile and mean run lead blocker. His peers voted him to the elite bowl 8 times- including what happened to be his last season in 2010-11.
Also a team player, Adams took a pay-cut in 2008 to stay with the team, even though he was still regarded as one of their best players. The Hawks lost to The Giants in Crystal Bowl XL in 2009-10, with Adams showing a fantastic display, even in his penultimate season.
Congratulations Ralph Adams, Hall of Legends member!
