The celebrations of the players and coaches went well into the night. After twenty-two matches (regular and post-season) over twenty four weeks, it all seemed worth it!
Here’s what a selection had to say:
“What’s to day? We have two in four years, three bowls in four, it’s such a collection of talent that we’ve assembled. I have been blessed with such a great team. We’ll rejoice for this evening, take it all in. Tomorrow, we’ve got some thinking to do, they’ll be celebrating while [Coaches/GM] work out the personnel plan for next season. It never stops. But tonight, I’m smiling and I think I’ll have a few beers!”
-Head Coach Chip Bailey.
“It’s a bit weird really [being MVP] as I didn’t have the best game, the defence played hot all through the play-offs and we might not have been here without them. Jeff’s interception set up the kick, Clint’s stopped a half-time comeback. Mike [Keys] just read their schemes all day. I mean, wow, how it’s me I don’t know! You know, Marshall was great, Mitch and Drew, the forwards, it was such a team effort. This is all theirs, really”
-MVP, QB Matt Kelly.
“If this is my last game, what a way to go out, we played one hella team. One hella, but we worked hard and stopped them, at the right times.”
-Plug, Benji Simpson
“What a season, I hope every year is like this! Holy [expletive] …yeah!”
-Rookie Winger, Drew Hart.
“When we were on their last drive, we knew we had to get the ball back, they had momentum on their side and we needed a boost, and just like that, [Tim] Wattsy flipped the ball towards me and I hung on to it- turnover. Now, I just prayed that Matt could get us in range. He’s cold, man. Ice-water in the veins. That’s why he’s our MVP. He’s killer, baby!”
-Midfielder, Jeff Holliday.
“We knew what we had to do, we pulled it off. We really had to work hard against one of the top defences in the game. It wasn’t easy and it came down to who held their nerve. I’m so glad that it was us”
-RB Marshall Knight.
“Can anyone say dynasty????”
– Wing back, Tim Watts.
